Email - Postfix master.cf, relay servers
Email Solution · Config document · referenced from Relay servers
The Postfix master process table of a relay server. It is the file shipped with the package, unchanged in its active lines: one smtpd listener on port 25 and the internal services. The stock comments and the commented-out services (submission, smtps and the rest) are left out; the three comment lines in the fence are mine.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Path on the server | /etc/postfix/master.cf |
| Shown here | DC2-A-VCMSR001 |
| Also on | DC2-B-VCMSR001, identical (diff shows no difference) |
| Software | Postfix 2.10.1 from RHEL 7 |
| Activated with | systemctl start postfix in the install notes |
The file
# Columns: service, type, private, unpriv, chroot, wakeup, maxproc, command + args # The only network listener: SMTP on port 25, no submission, no smtps. smtp inet n - n - - smtpd # Internal services, as shipped by the distribution. pickup unix n - n 60 1 pickup cleanup unix n - n - 0 cleanup qmgr unix n - n 300 1 qmgr tlsmgr unix - - n 1000? 1 tlsmgr rewrite unix - - n - - trivial-rewrite bounce unix - - n - 0 bounce defer unix - - n - 0 bounce trace unix - - n - 0 bounce verify unix - - n - 1 verify flush unix n - n 1000? 0 flush proxymap unix - - n - - proxymap proxywrite unix - - n - 1 proxymap smtp unix - - n - - smtp relay unix - - n - - smtp showq unix n - n - - showq error unix - - n - - error retry unix - - n - - error discard unix - - n - - discard local unix - n n - - local virtual unix - n n - - virtual lmtp unix - - n - - lmtp anvil unix - - n - 1 anvil scache unix - - n - 1 scache
Every service has n in the chroot column, which is how Red Hat ships the file. There is no content filter and no -o override on these servers; everything the relay does differently from a stock Postfix is in main.cf.
Checked against Postfix 3.11.7
| As built | Today |
|---|---|
One smtp inet … smtpd service on port 25 | I expect it unchanged in the stock file; not checked |
Commented-out smtps service in the stock file | The stock file now calls port 465 submissions; smtps is the former name |
| Logging through syslog | Unchanged default; since 3.4 maillog_file with postlogd is an option |
I expect that nothing in the active lines of this file needs a change for a current Postfix; that was not tested.
