Email - Postfix transport, mailbox server
Email Solution · Config document · referenced from Mailbox server
The transport table of the mailbox server: one line that sends every message for the site's own domain to the dovecot service of master.cf instead of to another SMTP server.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Path on the server | /etc/postfix/transport |
| Shown here | DC2-A-VCMSX002 |
| Counterpart | transport, internal servers |
| Referenced by | transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/transport in main.cf |
| Activated with | postmap /etc/postfix/transport, which a hash: table needs; the install notes show only the edit |
| Software | Postfix 2.10.1 from the RHEL 7 repository |
The file
################################################################################################### # Domain/mail_address Transport ################################################################################################### # Delivery transport to Internal Email Server for email messages for domain @ad-dc2.example.net ad-dc2.example.net dovecot
Differences from the internal pair
| Host | Line | Value |
|---|---|---|
DC2-A-VCMSX001, DC2-B-VCMSX001 | ad-dc2.example.net | smtp:[10.12.19.43], forward to the mailbox server |
DC2-A-VCMSX002 | ad-dc2.example.net | dovecot, deliver here |
The comment line is the one of the pair's file and was not changed: on this server the transport is the final delivery, not a hop to an internal email server. The first concept of 2017-2018, with one internal server per site, had the same line with ad.example.net on that one server.

| As built | Today |
|---|---|
transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/transport | the table format is unchanged; on RHEL 10, which has no Berkeley DB, the type must be lmdb: |
transport dovecot, a pipe to the LDA | still works; Dovecot recommends LMTP for delivery |
With LMTP the right-hand side would name the lmtp transport and Dovecot's socket instead of a pipe service.
